A lot of people have been asking me how I get such great photos on my iPhone. And yes, I have a few favorite apps I use most of the time. They can help to create the image and the look you are after, but keep in mind that the iPhone and its apps are just tools. Use your creative eye first and foremost. Never rely on your tools to do the work for you.
That being said here’s a list of photo apps on my iPhone (in no particular order). Check em out!

The Tragic Wand
It may be ok to use during mock-ups…but that’s it. Never ever ever do you touch this tool. It makes you lazy and the results are terrible. End of discussion.

Let me share a quick experience I had recently while shooting a friend of mine.
She wanted some fashion-mag type photos and I wanted some regular portrait photos and generally didn’t fully understand what the other expected of the shoot. In order to communicate what each other was thinking, we googled images of celebrities and then emailed the lot to back and forth. This helps to really show what some of the things we were looking for.
Once we sort of nailed down a bunch of ideas, I collected them into Photoshop for a very fast reference sheet. Photoshop calls this a “Contact Sheet II”. Really, this just assembles a bunch of photos onto a sheet with your specifics…all automatically!

I find the incredibly useful when I go for shoots to have something really fast to reference while on site. Try it out for yourself and let me know what you think!
